My memory of Jan is from first grade (1961?) at St. Louis School in the village.
Everyone’s a dork in early grammar school, but I was an ultra-dork. However, sweet little Jan didn’t care, and came up to me after school one day and asked me to be her boyfriend! I was so embarrassed, but said ok, and then she told me her address. I remember riding home on the bus that day, excited to the limit, my first love (!), really in the zone, reciting her address over and over like a mantra. I forgot the numbers now, but it was like “…(one, two, threety-four) Sunset Boulevard! One, two, threety-four Sunset Boulevard!”
Now it sounds lame and I apologize to Jan for that, but I have deep remorse for never approaching her, reminding her about that innocent “romance”, and befriending her again. I’ve forfeited that opportunity, to my great loss.
