William "Bill" Slocombe passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by his family.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Wilbur and Frances Slocombe; brother, Lee and brother-in-law, Dale Rider.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife and caretaker, Alejandra; uncle, Jack Nau; nieces, Josie and Reeni; nephew, David; great nieces and great-nephew; sisters, Kathy and Jeanne; brother, Ken.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy, enlisting during the Vietnam War and retiring after active duty in the Persian Gulf War.

Bill loved nurturing plants and animals. M. Gill Petrie, high school teacher and mentor to many, encouraged Bill's love of botany. Bill's love and respect for animals included dogs, cats, tropical fish, snakes, song birds and a rescued baby squirrel named Milum. Bill's great passion was deep sea fishing. He was a NASCAR fan and a film buff.

A celebration of Bill's life was held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Dierna Funeral Home, 2309 Culver Road, in Rochester.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to Lollypop Farm's Emergency Veterinary Assistance and Reward Fund or the charity of their choice.
