I wrestled with Avery,.........well, actually I was a light weight and Avery was a heavy weight so I did not actually wrestle with Avery, but was on the same team with him. Avery was a funny guy in his own way. Some what of a gentle giant as well. He and Andy Snow and others were always very accepting of us younger teammates. I have nothing but good memories of Avery.

I went on to MCC along with Avery. I would often find him sitting at the end of my street looking for a ride to school. We stayed in touch on and off for the 70s and early 80's. Avery owned a asphalt business he took over from his father. He put the binder and top coat down on the driveways of two of my houses. I was shocked and hurt to learn that he was taken so early. His obituaries first line reads "hero"! Though I find it easy to comprehend, I would love to learn how that title came to be. Honorable should have been the second in a long line of accolades.
