Robert “Bob” Van Buren was born on February 16, 1954 in Rochester, NY to parents John and Ruth Van Buren. He was the second of their three children. His older brother, John Van Buren, and younger sister, Carol Van Buren, still reside in the greater Rochester area.
Bob enjoyed all things outdoors growing up and enjoyed recounting his childhood exploits to family and friends. He carried his passion for the outdoors with him when he moved to Texas in the 70s to obtain his MBA from the University of Houston and pursue a career in banking and real estate. He was an accomplished chef, both in the kitchen and on the grill, loved fishing, golfing, and walks with his trusty canine companion, Cisco.
Robert passed away quickly from a rare form of renal cancer on January 30, 2024 at home surrounded by his immediate family. He leaves behind a wife of more than 20 years, Cathy Van Buren Tran, their two children Cole, 19, and Ava, 17, his adult children Denille (Van Buren) Ruth of Boston, MA, and Mathew Van Buren of Austin, TX, four grandchildren, as well as extended family, friends, and business associates.
