Bev Wolkin was my friend and 4th grade classmate at Allen's Creek. We sat next to one another when Mrs. Chapman answered the class phone and they said JFK was shot.

I recall Bev played guitar very well, as I remember she brought it to school once.

RIP my friend

Bev and I met in 6th grade, and stayed friends into 7th grade, as I recall. Admittedly, I was rather sweet on her and I only have good memories.

I don't know the circumstances of her passing. Kristi put a note in her yearbook that Beverly died in 1992.

Sweet dreams to one of the best friends I had in High School.

The fun we had swapping religeous jewelry, so we could go to each others Country Clubs...yes folks back in the day, Jews and Christians weren't allowed to mingle there.

Oak Hill and Irondequoit right next to each other, one only allowed Jews as members or guests, but only hired Christian Lifeguards, the other only allowed Christians as members or guests, and only hired Jews as Lifeguards.  Teenage girls love looking at the lifeguards, but to meet one with the same religeon I'd wear a Star of David Necklace to get into her club, and she'd wear a Christian cross to get into mine.

Her battle with cancer began towards the end of high school.  The bandana she wore was to cover up the hair loss from Chemo.  Not many knew that as she was determined to beat it, and did for a number of years.  She never wanted a pity party, and always did all she could to help others.

We worked on charity fundraisers together, she was always thankful for the assets she had via her family, and was more concerned about those that didn't have what she had been given, than she was with her own life and death struggles.

Miss you Bev, but i know you're up there in heaven.

Never having been to any Rochester country club ever...........I had no idea this disdainful practice was going on. Now in 2016 it seems unbelievable. Fascinating from a historical perspective. When I lived there, it always seemed to me that Pittsford/Rochester was generally a very progressive society. Apparently, not as progressive as I thought!

I never knew that Bev had cancer, but remember her wearing the bandana..she was such a sweetheart, she had a heart of gold.
